Citizens’ Impeachment was launched out of a frustration that our elected officials were continuing with business-as-usual in the face of an unequivocal threat to our democracy: a president and administration taking unconstitutional actions with impunity.
Since Congress refused to take action, we did. In just one week, we organized over a thousand people from almost every single congressional district in the US to send an email to their representatives asking a simple question: Do you support the impeachment of Donald J. Trump?
We only had two rules:
- Put the representative on the record with a direct ask to their press office.
- Ask every single one of them.
We didn’t have preconceived notions about who would support impeachment and who wouldn’t. Every single one of those reps signed an oath to support and defend the Constitution. So, on April 7th, 2025, we asked every single one of them if they supported impeachment.
Fifteen representatives said “Yes” over the next two days.
One of those representatives was Rep. Shri Thanedar (MI-13). Rep. Thanedar went on to file the first articles of impeachment against Donald Trump on April 28th, 2025. Since then, two more impeachment resolutions have been filed and now 79 members of Congress have voted to take up the question of impeachment in the house.
