Our members of Congress have heard our calls and seen our emails — and many are still choosing to look the other way.
That’s why it’s time to turn up the pressure. Writing a letter to the editor of your local newspaper is the next step to demand their attention. For inspiration, we’ve provided templates for the four most common representative responses below. Just click on the type of communication you received from your representative to produce a targeted template letter to the editor. You don’t have to use these, but they can make your life a little easier!
Why it matters:
Members of Congress and their staff read local papers to monitor public opinion in their districts. When your name and your message appear in print, members of Congress see that their own constituents are speaking out publicly and expect a response.
What to include:
- Your representative’s name and district: “Representative Langworthy is failing constituents in NY-23”
- Why this issue is important to you: “By refusing to sign the discharge petition to release the Epstein Transparency Act from committee, Rep. Langworthy choosing to continue to harm survivors of Epstein’s abuse.
- Emphasize that their failure to act is an electoral liability: “Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse of children is not a partisan issue. Voters across the political spectrum – including myself – demand the release of the Epstein Files”
- Make an explicit ask: “Representative Langworthy should find his spine and his moral compass immediately and sign the discharge petition.”
- Don’t forget to sign it with your own name and town!

Step 4: Write and submit your letter to the editor
- Keep it short and focused — most papers have a word limit of 100-150 words.
- Include your full name, city, and contact information (usually required for verification, but only your name and city are published).
- To submit, go to your local paper’s website and look for a link called “Submit a Letter to the Editor”, usually under the “Opinion” or “Contact Us” section. (You can also search online: “[Your Newspaper Name] + letter to the editor submission.”)

1) My member of Congress did not respond.
We are truly disappointed to see how many representatives are refusing to respond to their constituents’ questions about impeachment. Click here for a template to demand accountability from your representative.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR – “NO RESPONSE” TEMPLATE:
As a <CITY/TOWN> voter in District <STATE-NUMBER>, I’m deeply concerned that Representative <FIRST AND LAST NAME> has not stated whether they support impeaching Donald Trump. I’ve contacted their office numerous times with no reply. This silence, in the face of a clear threat to our democracy, is unacceptable.
Trump’s threats to cling to power and his open contempt for the law are not partisan claims — they are facts. Moreover, he openly admits that he does not know if, as the U.S. President, he needs to follow the Constitution. If Congress doesn’t impeach, convict, and remove him, our democracy may not withstand the damage.
I encourage my fellow citizens to contact Rep. <LAST NAME>’s office and urge them to support and cosponsor articles of impeachment. They must publicly commit to defending the Constitution from tyranny. Voters are watching.
2) My member of Congress sent me a response completely unrelated to impeachment.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR – “WHAT?” TEMPLATE:
I contacted Rep. <FIRST AND LAST NAME> (District <STATE-NUMBER>) to urge support for impeaching President Trump. Their response, [BRIEFLY DESCRIBE RESPONSE], failed to address my concerns.
Trump’s actions — lawless, unaccountable, and authoritarian — threaten our democracy. If we don’t act now, we could lose everything that made this country great. Congress must do its duty and impeach him immediately.
Rep. <LAST NAME>’s failure to engage shows a lack of leadership. I certainly will not be voting, donating, or volunteering for them in the future unless they clarify their stance by taking action toward impeachment, without delay.
I am urging fellow residents of <REGION> to back leaders who are standing up for the Constitution.
3) My member of Congress said “no” to supporting impeachment.
If your representative has decided to abandon their oath to the Constitution, it is time to put them on notice. Click here for a template to demand they uphold their oath.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR – “NO” TEMPLATE:
Representative <FIRST AND LAST NAME> (District <STATE-NUMBER>) has said that they will not support impeaching President Trump. This is a dangerous failure of leadership, and as a voter from <CITY/TOWN>, I am demanding better from our elected representation.
It is clear that Trump is a tyrant who is dismantling democratic norms and threatening to remain in power unlawfully. On every issue, from immigration to the economy, he and his cabinet have acted lawlessly, refused to hold themselves accountable to our justice system, and committed a multitude of crimes.
Refusing to impeach Trump immediately risks lasting damage to our democracy. By rejecting their responsibility to uphold the Constitution, Rep. <LAST NAME> has shown they have broken the oath they swore and are unfit to serve. I will not vote, donate, or volunteer for them in the future.
I urge others in <REGION> to join me in insisting that Representative <LAST NAME> uphold their oath to the Constitution.
4) My member of Congress supports impeachment.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR – “YES” TEMPLATE:
I am a citizen and voter from <CITY/TOWN>, and I commend Representative <FIRST AND LAST NAME> (District <STATE-NUMBER>) for publicly committing to impeach President Trump. This is a necessary step to confront an unprecedented threat to our democracy.
It is obvious that Trump is a tyrant leading the country into authoritarianism. On every issue, from immigration to the economy, he and his cabinet have acted lawlessly, as if unaccountable to our justice system. They have committed a multitude of crimes, and it is high time for Congress to exercise the process of impeachment, conviction, and removal.
I urge Rep. <LAST NAME> to take the next step and cosponsor articles of impeachment without delay. Words alone are not enough. Failure to act toward impeachment is betraying the public trust and enabling the destruction of our democratic institutions.
